Virgin River’s Muriel star opens upon whether she’s really over Doc

In advance of season five of Virgin River hitting screens next month Muriel actress Teryl Rothery has been speaking out about her character’s feelings for Doc.

Virgin River star Teryl Rothery has dashed the hopes of fans who thought that there might still be a future for her character Muriel and Doc Mullins (played by Tom Matheson) in the upcoming season five.

Muriel was somewhat of a baddie when introduced to the Netflix drama as she made it clear she had feelings for Doc.

However, viewers soon learned his ex-wife Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole) was still in love with him.

After going on a few dates with Muriel, Doc realised he had no romantic feelings for her but instead wanted to give things another go with Hope.

Now Teryl has confirmed that any romance between the pair is in the past.

“You know I think she is I think she let that go,” she said speaking in a Virgin River fan chat.

“What she is still, is extremely caring and I believe strongly that she was sincere when she said she will always be friends – they would always be friends.”

“There’s a deep friendship. I think she’ll always be there for him,” she intimated.

Her remarks come as viewers are excited for season five of the popular drama which hits the streaming service next month.

A teaser issued by the channel says that the new season “features surprising new relationships, a shocking break-up, a difficult court trial, a heartbreaking goodbye, and a wildfire that threatens the town, bringing some people of Virgin River together while tearing others apart.”

For her part Teryl has admitted that she hopes Muriel will find a “soulmate.”

In the same chat she revealed that she wanted her character to be in a relationship similar to Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge).

Speaking on her hopes, she elaborated: “Maybe like to have Muriel have the kind of relationship that Mel and Jack have. You know, it’s really like your soulmate.”

However, it appears that their relationship may not be all plain sailing in the upcoming season as the teaser reveals that motherhood issues “push Mel to make a big decision about her future at the clinic while her pregnancy unexpectedly sparks an emotional connection to her past.”

Meanwhile, “to further prove himself to Mel, Jack squares off with some long-overdue confrontations with his own demons, and of course, Charmaine.”
