Virgin River fans haven’t taken too kindly to Dr Cameron Hayek, with many claiming he has a lot of “red flags”.

Fans of Netflix’s Virgin River have spoken out against Dr Cameron Hayek, played by Mark Ghanime, accusing him of “creepy” behaviour. The character joined the show in season 4 as a new physician at Doc Mullins’ (Tim Matheson) surgery.

He didn’t make the best first impression, however, as he showed an interest in Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), which threatened her relationship with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). Nevertheless, the doctor ended up with a new romantic interest in season 5, after getting loved up with Muriel St. Claire (Teryl Rothery).

Ahead of Virgin River season six, fans took to Reddit to discuss the divisive character. User @opinionatedaquariuss posted: “Wait… Cameron badmouthing Jack. I’m sorry but that was just too much.

“He knows nothing about Jack and Mel’s relationship. And when he starts saying she will need someone to be there for her when the baby is born like?!?!” (sic)

Fans flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with one writing: “

It was weird. He was definitely trying to plant doubt in Mel’s mind hoping she’d leave Jack and get with him.”

Another agreed: “He’s a creep… he is so inappropriate with Mel from the get. He wasn’t discussing Jacks drinking with good intentions. He was doing it to plant negative seeds in Mel’s head about Jack in order to isolate her away from Jack and then swoop in. It’s absolutely gross and there are so many man, unfortunately that are like this. If you haven’t watched any further than that, I won’t spoil it for you but I will say they attempt to redeem Cameron’s character but I still do not like him. He is just… weird.” (sic)

A third penned: “Yeah I can’t have any positive feelings towards him. He’s one of those insidious creeps that are dangerously unpredictable. Ugh gross.” (sic)

Another fan chimed in: “I was always suspicious of Cameron because to me, he was coming on too strong with everyone for being the newbie. I didn’t like him trying to take jabs at Jack either as he didn’t even know Jack. I thought Cameron was running away from something as a Physician like him would’ve considered his skills wasted in a small place like VR.” (sic)

“Dude is a certified creep,” another assented, as one more seethed: “Cameron is a pompous ass, he is very impressed with himself, I did not like him from the start, and he has the personality of a rock.” (sic)

However, not everyone was on board with this reading of the character, as one fan reasoned: “I’m in the minority! I like Cameron. Yeah, he made some errors, but who hasn’t? Just my opinion!”

“While he probably doesn’t have the best intentions, he wasn’t wrong lol and knew from experience,” another added.

A third wrote: “His ex was an alcoholic and he recognizes the signs. He may have been overstepping a bit, but he’s not wrong.”
