The heartwarming drama returned for its fifth series in September, with the last two festive episodes released at the end of 2023.

It was a particularly memorable season as Charmaine (played by Lauren Hammersley) who announced her pregnancy in the first series,

finally gave birth to her twin boys in the fifth outing.

But as Netflix knows subscribers all too well, everything up until now in the Virgin River universe has taken place over a five-month period.

And this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the cast as Brie Sheridan actress Zibby Allen revealed.

When asked if the stars joked about the timeline by Today, she said: “Oh, all the time. “I’m like, ‘You guys, eventually, you’re gonna have to do a time jump because we’re just aging way too fast for a five-month span.’

“But yeah, I think that the pregnancy thing was one of the first sort of tells because even I, when I was watching the show before I was on, was like, “Oh, this covers way more time in the story.” And it really doesn’t.”

At the end of the fifth series, it came out that Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) was pregnant and once again, fans were concerned her pregnancy would last several series like Charmaine’s did.

This, in turn, led showrunner Patrick Sean Smith to address the timeline issue.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly if Lizzie’s pregnancy was going to last as long as Charmaine’s did, he had a simple answer to put subscribers’ minds at rest.

He replied: “Considering Charmaine was pregnant for four seasons, I will say no.”

Of course, this doesn’t clear up exactly how long Lizzie will be pregnant for and or the show’s timeline.

For Allen’s character Brie, season five ended with her finding a new love with Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini).

She had a rocky relationship with Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) for several series previously so could her romance with Mike really mean the end for her and her ex-boyfriend?

Thankfully, there will be plenty more to come with season six on the horizon in late 2024.
