Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge has received backlash for sharing the viral photo of former President of the United States Donald Trump’s mugshot.

Virgin River’s Mel Monroe star Alexandra Breckenridge found herself in hot water with fans after sharing a photo of Donald Trump’s mugshot.

On Friday, Trump surrendered in Georgia on charges of plotting to overturn the state’s 2020 election results in an arrest that saw the first-ever mugshot of a former US president.

This became his fourth arrest in five months in a criminal case, but this was his first police booking photo and, as a result, it swept the internet.

While others were pleased to see the businessman face punishment, others took to his defense after he described the case as “a travesty of justice”.

Breckenridge ruffled feathers after she shared the photo on Instagram, cryptically captioned: “This.”Angered fans took to the comments in droves of fury warning the actress to keep her Instagram page politics-free.

@mrs_courtney_kim fumed: “If you could stick to acting that would be great. Not all of your fans/followers are democratic.

@Lynettemark added: “I think u should keep politics off your page.” (sic)

While @nataliedawn19 threatens to unfollow the star: “Bummer…I follow you for light-hearted stuff not political crap. Byeeee.”

A disappointed @risland_68 echoed: “Lord!! Another celebrity who can’t stick to acting.. why do u guys ruin everything???” (sic)

Despite the backlash, thousands of Breckenridge’s followers came to her defense including @Geninebutterly77 who hit back: “She has a right to her opinion.”

As @Annerivet49 praised: “Thank you for standing up for democracy and the rule of law! I appreciate you very much, you are a great personality!”

Although the actress may have upset some of her fans, most viewers are looking forward to seeing her back on screens as the beloved nurse Mel Monroe.

The upcoming season five plot is expected to pick up from season four’s satisfying ending which sees Mel and Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) get engaged.

Netflix streamers are also hoping to see the nurse’s growing bump as she’s also expecting their first child.

Despite the bliss ahead, many unanswered questions also loom over the show’s return
