Virgin River returns on November 30th, presenting the second part of the fifth season on Netflix, with special Christmas episodes.
Virgin River executive producer Patrick Sean Smith dropped a big hint about the identity of Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) father.
In the final episode of Part 1 of Season 5, Mel discovers that her mother may have had an affair with a man who lives in Virgin River.
Which leads her to investigate the identity of her father.
During an interview, Patrick addressed fan speculation about the possibility of Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson) being Mel’s real father.
Patrick has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors. However, he seemed to hint at the possibility that Mel’s father is a character that audiences may already be familiar with.
“I think the fun of the next two episodes is looking around and realizing it could be anyone in Virgin River,” he said.
However, when asked if viewers had met him yet, he kept his cards close to his chest. “I don’t want to reveal it,” he said.
Christmas Episodes
Patrick also gave fans an idea of what to expect from the Christmas episodes. That’s because, when asked if Mel’s father’s story will be explored, he suggested: “The Christmas episodes are a little lighter, and we wanted to add a little more comedy after the weight of this season. It seemed like if we’re going to give the audience a Christmas present, let’s make it fun.
So part of what Mel and Jack are going through in these two episodes is like a scavenger hunt in Virgin River, trying to find the man who is their biological father. They are going from track to track.”
In short, the second part of the fifth season will consist of two special Christmas party episodes and will be available on Netflix on November 30th.
Will there be a sixth season of Virgin River?
Responding, the sixth season of Virgin River has already been confirmed by Netflix and is already in production. But still no release date.
The good news is that the show’s writers returned to work earlier this month following the end of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. Therefore, we can expect news soon.
But the bad news is that SAG-AFTRA, which represents actors and other media professionals, is still on strike, meaning the cast can’t return to work just yet.
Last week, negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP, which negotiates on behalf of the major studios, broke down. The studios stated that the gulf between the two parties is “too great” to continue productive negotiations.
Therefore, until an agreement is reached, the actors will not be able to return to the set. In other words, this means that Netflix is unlikely to announce a release date anytime soon.
