Virgin River always introduces new and old characters. But one of them could be a big mistake for the Netflix series.
Netflix’s Virgin River spices up each season by adding new and exciting characters to the town’s population.
But there’s one character who shouldn’t be introduced in Virgin River Season 5.
Based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr, the series follows Melinda “Mel” Monroe. She is a nurse who moves to the titular town looking for a fresh start after her husband’s death. Shortly after Mel arrives in Virgin River, she begins a romance with Jack Sheridan, a kindly bar owner with a troubled past.
Throughout Virgin River, the show introduces several people from Jack’s past. From his sister, Brie, to her parents, Virgin River’s new characters bring a new dynamic to both the town and Jack’s character.
Introducing new characters with connections to the townspeople of Virgin River is a great way to spice up the show. However, there is one character from Jack’s past who shouldn’t appear in season 5.
Series teased an appearance by Jack’s ex-wife in season 5
Jack’s current romantic exploits are the main focus. But one part of Jack’s romantic history that some viewers may not remember is his ex-wife, Mandy. Even though a previous marriage seems like an important thing to mention about a main character, Jack’s wedding doesn’t happen until season three.
The two were married briefly before Jack went to Iraq while he was a Marine. Although Jack assures Mel that his marriage to Mandy is ancient history and not something she needs to worry about, it has been suggested that Mandy could appear in season 5.

In an interview with Glamour, the new showrunner, Patrick Sean Smith, suggests a possible appearance by Mandy in season 5. However, while it may seem like a great way to inject drama into the story, Mandy shouldn’t appear on the show.
Why introducing Mandy in Season 5 is a bad idea
While introducing Jack’s ex-wife Mandy might seem like a way to add drama to Virgin River Season 5, inserting Mandy wouldn’t be a good idea for the show.
Much of the plot may focus on relationship drama, but the show already has plenty of material from Jack’s personal life, between appearances from family members and his ongoing fights with Charmaine.
Because of this, including Mandy in the series to introduce more drama into Jack’s life would seem like an unnecessary rupture in his relationship with Mel. There are many plotlines and issues that Virgin River season 5 should explore, but Jack’s marriage to Mandy should be in the past.
