Virgin River should continue for a long time, whether in its original form or through spin-offs. A new series appears on the way.
Netflix is delving deeper into the family tree of Mel Monroe from “Virgin River.”
According to information from Deadline, Netflix is developing a series derived from “Virgin River”.
It will focus on the young versions of Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents.
The potential series will explore the origin story between Mel’s late mother, Sarah, and Everett Reid. He, in fact, was revealed to be Mel’s biological father in the two-part Christmas special last November.
Casting is underway for the roles of young Sarah and young Everett, who will first appear in flashbacks in season six, with the possibility of them leading the spin-off series.
A Netflix representative declined to confirm the news.
Production on the sixth season of the flagship series has already begun in Vancouver, with a return date set for 2025. According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, who is reportedly writing the new series, the sixth season will explore “a kind of paternal love triangle” between Mel, biological father Everett and longtime father figure Doc.
“Doc has always been a surrogate father to Mel, so we’ll see what happens when her real biological father comes into her life and how that affects their relationship,” Smith told TVLine.
