Nitin Ganatra has sent fans into meltdown as he addressed EastEnders’ recent mention of his beloved character Masood Ahmed.

The actor, who portrayed Masood between 2007 and 2019, took to X/Twitter in the wake of his signature character receiving a mention during Wednesday’s (July 17) edition of the BBC One soap.

Jane Beale (Laurie Brett), who was formerly in a relationship with Masood, staged an announced comeback to the show earlier this week, reconnecting with estranged son Bobby (Clay Milner Russell).

Ian (Adam Woodyatt), who had been in contact with Jane, was berated by Cindy (Michelle Collins) for keeping shtum about getting in touch with his former wife, with a heated showdown ensuing.

Jane claimed that she wasn’t currently in a relationship, though it turned out that she wasn’t exactly being honest, as she later received a phone call from her current love interest – who turned out to be none other than Masood!

Following the episode’s broadcast, actor Nitin – who was last seen in the Square in 2019 – took to social media to address the reference to his Albert Square alter-ego, writing: ‘Somebody tell me whatever heard?

‘Is Jane missing Masood?? Or is it @LauriebrettX making my ears burn??? Xxx’

Fans were quick to respond, with Zoe stating: ‘I hope this means Masood is making a comeback’, followed by a fingers crossed emoji.

Jenny added: ‘Are you two coming back to Eastenders permanently? We need Jane and Masood!’

‘PLEASE don’t do this,’ exclaimed Johnie. ‘WE NEED YOU BACK’

Fans are eager to see Masood back on the Square, that’s for sure and, with EastEnders currently bringing back a number of former faces ahead of the show’s 40th anniversary – with David Wicks and Chrissie Watts next in line – is it only a matter of time before Masood becomes the next?
