Coronation Street’s Daniel Osbourne actor Rob Mallard has starred in the soap since 2016, and leads a far less eventful life away from the drama of Weatherfield

Daniel Osbourne is currently at the centre of the drama in Coronation Street.

On Friday’s edition of the soap, 23 August, DS Swain hauls Sarah in for questioning over Lauren’s disappearance. And after denying planting Lauren’s DNA in his van, Sarah urges Daniel to persuade Bethany to drop her campaign against Nathan. Meanwhile, Daniel tells Daisy that he doesn’t trust Kit and something doesn’t sit right about Nathan’s conviction.

Corrie fans know that it was, in fact, Joel Deering who was behind Lauren’s disappearance after he brutally attacked her. But in a bid to keep everything he’s done secret, he’s asked Lauren to lie and say it was Nathan who groomed her.

Thirty two year old Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, first appeared on the famous cobbles in 2016 as the son of Ken Barlow and the uncle of Adam Barlow, a notorious womaniser. However, this wasn’t Rob’s first time on a soap.

Before joining Coronation Street, Rob played Connor Jenson in Emmerdale back in September 2015. Rob joined Corrie in the following year and also featured in Jack Whitehall’s Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat.

In his personal life, Rob publicly came out as gay during an interview with Gay Times in 2017, having told his family about his sexuality when he was 17. He stated that he “never planned to keep [his sexuality] quiet.”

After joining Corrie, he started dating co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew. The couple confirmed their relationship when Rob won his British Soap Award, with him declaring in his acceptance speech: “Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you’re the best thing I’ve ever taken home.”

However, just two months later, they broke up due to the pressures of working together while being in a romantic relationship. Rob then dated Ben Perryman, but they split in 2019.

In January 2020, Rob confirmed that their relationship had reached its “natural end” and it is believed that he remained single during the lockdown. However, it seems the soap star has found love again. In June 2023, he appeared to confirm his new relationship when he posted a photo on Instagram of himself dressed up for the British Soap Awards.

He looked dashing in a three-piece navy suit and dark sunglasses as he posed with his equally stylish guest. “British soap awards 2023 with @mattmarcm,” he captioned the post, adding a red heart emoji. The event was a big night for Coronation Street, which took home six awards.

Rob’s co-star Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy, responded to the post with: “You sexy b*****ds.” Although they haven’t officially confirmed their relationship, they’ve been seen together several times since, including at the theatre.In other news, Rob recently opened up about his ‘degenerative’ health condition to raise awareness. A few years ago, he revealed that he has an essential tremor – a neurological disorder that causes involuntary and rhythmic shaking, usually in the hands.

“I was diagnosed with an essential tremor when I was 14 but I didn’t quite realise how serious it was until I was in my mid-20’s… You assume with shaking it’s an old person’s thing and most older people do have a slight tremor,” Rob said. “But it’s actually amazingly common in young people and it’s often misdiagnosed as anxiety disorders or people on the street might think something bad.”

Now a patron for the National Tremor Foundation, Rob only went public about his essential tremor after an episode on This Morning a few years back. Recalling a recent chat on Morning Live, he said: “I went onto TV to talk about Coronation Street and got a massive rush of adrenaline from the live TV aspect of it and just started shaking.

“I had longer hair at the time too and I had a quiff and when I watched it back, all you could see was the hair shaking. Within minutes of me coming off, people on social media were speculating that I was drunk, that I was withdrawing from something, that I had an issue.”

“Then I was in a position where I had been hiding this because I thought it was going to stop me doing work whereas now, because I have not been honest about it, the assumptions are getting even worse so I’ve got to make a choice here and I came back and said what it was. It’s an essential tremor, it’s more common than you think, people think it’s an older-people thing and I just found being honest about it has been the best policy.”
