Inside Coronation Street’s rocking Summer Party in Manchester – with a star performance

One Corrie star stole the show on a rocking night for the soap…

It was a rocking night out in Manchester for the stars of Coronation Street – as they held their annual Summer Party in the city. The Summer Sizzler was held at Victoria Warehouse, with a galaxy of the show’s stars in attendance.

The soap’s Colson Smith and Lucy Fallon became chief party organisers for the occasion, bringing together their co-stars for a classic Manc knees up on Friday night. The rain wasn’t about to dampen the spirits of stars who arrived in a string of glamorous summer outfits to the Old Trafford venue.

They were joined by co-stars including Tina O’Brien, Sally Ann Matthews, Jennie McAlpine, Sam Robertson, Daniel Brocklebank, Julia Goulding, Claire Sweeney, Channique Sterling-Brown, Mikey North, Alan Halsall and Andy Whyment.

They booked out Victoria Warehouse for the party, which is just a stone’s throw from ITV’s Corrie studios at Trafford Wharf. And the old shipping warehouse was transformed into a Corrie-themed extravaganza – with Rovers Return props, and even a Weatherfield County trophy on display.

Colson and Lucy both thanked Manchester’s GO PR and events for helping them organise the bash, which had an orange and pink theme with balloons and glitter board to greet guests on arrival.

There were also plenty of spots for photo opps for the stars, including the Coronation Street logo beamed out across the walls and giant illuminated CORRIE letters.

Guests got to tuck into popcorn from a machine “sponsored by Weatherfield County Football Club” and with the help of the “Weatherfield Gazzette” for good measure.

There was live music for most of the night courtesy of the Rocksteady band. But it was one particular star performer who somewhat stole the show on the night.

For Corrie legend Andy Whyment, who has played Kirk Sutherland for the past 24 years, stepped up to belt out a series of big hits on the night.

His co-stars were absolutely loving it, lapping up his performance of anthems like the Backstreet Boys’ Everbody and Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire.

But naturally it was when he performed the Manc classic, Oasis’s Don’t Look Back in Anger, that became the biggest singalong of the night.

Georgia Taylor, who plays Leanne Battersby, posted videos of Andy in action and said: “Is it even a party if Andy Whyment doesn’t sing”.

Meanwhile Alan Halsall, who arrived at the bash with his pal Andy, added a video of him in action to his Instagram Stories too. He added the caption: “My night is never complete without my hero”.

Lucy, who plays the soap’s Bethany Platt took to instagram to thank everyone for helping the party sizzle on Friday. She shared a number of glam photos of her co-stars enjoying the bash too.

She said: “Great succes at the Summer sizzzz thank you to Rocksteady.usic for being so fabulous.”

She then added further thanks saying: “Thank you to @Go_PR_andevents, @secretgardenevents, mrsbsweetdeights @illumilights1”.

Other stars sharing images from inside the bash included Georgia Taylor who was enjoying the party with co-stars including Jennie McAlpine, Claire Sweeney and Cherrylee Houston.

The revels will continue in Manchester for many of the soap’s stars again on Saturday night. For the first ever Radio Times Soap Awards is taking place in the city centre.

A galaxy of stars from the nation’s biggest soaps are set to descend on the historic Midland Hotel in Manchester for the awards ceremony. Corrie has been nominated across a host of the categories, including Best Villain, Best Comedy Performance, Best Storyline, and of course Best Soap.
