Gobsmacked EastEnders fans only just realising soap favourite appeared in Harry Potter

EastEnders fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing as they tuned into a Harry Potter movie to find an Albert Square favourite lurking in the background of one of the scenes

EastEnders fans were forced to do a double take after they spotted a soap legend in a Harry Potter movie.

The blockbuster franchise has launched massive careers for the likes of Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. And it turns out an EastEnders star had a secret cameo in the epic final Harry Potter film.

Back in 2011, the fantasy franchise came to an end with its eighth instalment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two).

At the end of the flick, an older-looking Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione waved their children off for their first year at Hogwarts. However, standing behind the famous actors was an EastEnders favourite.

And one fan soon clocked their cameo. Rushing to an EastEnders Facebook fan page, they shared their shock at seeing EastEnders’ beloved market stall holder Shrimpy, played by Ben Champniss, in the Harry Potter movie.

“As If Shrimpy is on Harry Potter lol,” said one person, alongside a photo of the actor’s cameo in Harry Potter.

Someone else replied and proclaimed: “Can’t believe this, watched it so many times including a few months ago and never noticed!”

A third penned: “This is the best thing iv seen.” While another chimed in and wrote: “Seen that film so many times yet never spotted him!”

Ben Champnisshas played fan favourite extra Shrimpy in the soap since 2014. He’s become one of EastEnders’ few regular background actors to have consistently remained on the soap.

Shrimpy, famous for her signature mod hairdo and trilby hats, can usually be seen most weeks hanging around the square at the market with the likes of Martin Fowler.

In April this year, Ben spoke out about his future on EastEnders, revealing he will remain firmly in Walford for the foreseeable future.

Gushing about his 10-year-stint, Ben wrote on social media: “10 years today since my hat and I marched up Turpin Road, down Bridge Street and into The Queen Vic, Walford! Cheers, Shrimpy, you’ve changed my life!”
