Security working at the set of EastEnders were allegedly forced to call police when a fan arrived at the filming set and demanded to kiss a member of the BBC cast

Police are reportedly investigating an EastEnders fan who allegedly harassed a cast member and demanded a kiss at the set of the iconic soap.

The cast of the BBC show were allegedly left alarmed at the recent National Television Awards where security was increased to protect them from an obsessive fan. However, a new report has claimed that a fan arrived at the set of the soap in July and refused to leave unless a cast member agreed to kiss them.

The alarming details come just days after the 2024 NTAs security scare – and a report has suggested police are involved in an investigation. The fan who arrived at the set of EastEnders – which is filmed at BBC Elstree Centre in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire – has reportedly been held under the mental health act. It is claimed the fan attended the set twice – on July 12 and July 18. The individual allegedly refused to leave the premises and was “demanding to kiss” members of the cast.

A source told The Sun: “The fan visited Elstree a number of times and was trying to blag his way in and was refusing to leave, demanding to kiss some of the female cast. Security called police.” The Mirror has contacted the BBC and Hertfordshire Police for comment.

On Thursday it was revealed that the cast of EastEnders required additional security when they attended the 2024 National Television Awards in London last Wednesday over concerns a stalker was planning to accost members of the cast at the event. It was reported that security staff working at the event were made aware of a possible stalker and given photographs of what they looked like.

A source discussed the security alert with The Sun last week, revealing: “Having that many A-listers in one place meant the O2 was already incredibly well guarded but the threat to the EastEnders cast meant additional measures were put in place. An image of the suspected stalker was sent among staff so they knew who to look out for.

“EastEnders cast tread the line between being instantly recognisable household names and also living fairly normal lives… But bosses have to draw the line somewhere and when the stalker made their plans clear to attend the event, something had to be done.” The report went on to suggest the individual bombarded cast members with messages online and informed them they had a ticket to the event. It is also reported that the individual expressed a desire to meet the children of some of the cast members.

EastEnders was up for the best Serial Drama at the glitzy awards show – but lost out to Emmerdale. Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton on the ITV soap, said while accepting the gong on the night: “We just want to thank our audience – without you this show would not exist. We are so grateful to you, and we know that some of you have watched us since the very beginning.”
