EastEnders fans are convinced that it’s only a matter of time before long-suffering Reiss Colwell snaps – and they’ve worked out exactly who his victim will be

EastEnders enthusiasts are convinced that Reiss Colwell’s (played by Jonny Freeman) breaking point is imminent, and they believe they’ve “worked out” who he might target next.

Portrayed by Jonny Freeman, the character made his debut on the soap in 2022. As Dot Branning’s (played by the late June Brown) great-nephew, Reiss swiftly carved a life for himself in Walford.

He began a romantic involvement with Walford icon Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy). The couple harboured dreams of starting a family but were shut down by challenges, including the hurdle of Reiss’ infertility.

In a heart-wrenching plot twist disclosed last year, viewers learned that Reiss’ spouse was in a coma in long-term hospital care. Despite their trials, Sonia and Reiss eventually embarked on IVF, with Sonia undergoing treatment.

Unbeknownst to Sonia, Reiss had stolen cash from Debbie’s account to bankroll their IVF. The duo initially celebrated when it seemed Sonia was expecting, only to be crushed by the news she wasn’t really pregnant, reports the Daily Star.

Undeterred, they’ve reignited their IVF journey, but this week, Reiss was dealt a financial blow.

Reiss, who works as an accountant, was confronted with an £18,000 tab for his comatose wife Debbie’s ongoing medical expenses. Yet fortune appeared to smile on him when Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, asked him to look after her accounts, throwing him a lifeline.

However, Reiss compromised his integrity by embezzling funds into his personal account, later feeling waves of guilt when Sharon unexpectedly rewarded him with a bonus.

Soap watchers are convinced Reiss is set to descend into darkness given the escalating mendacity and Debbie’s burgeoning medical expenses, so much that whisperings suggest he may become the show’s “next serial killer.”

A viewer expressed on Twitter: “I feel like Reiss can kill. There’s a serial killer somewhere deep inside of him itching to be let out.”

While another commented: “Reckon Reiss is going to murder Debbie to save on care home fees and get all her money.”

But some fans are speculating it might be Sharon who faces Reiss’s fury, with one tweeting: “You know something if they do a reveal that Reiss is pushed to breaking point and kills Sharon….”
