EastEnders finally solves the mystery of Maya Hussain in huge twist as Harvey Monroe uncovers the truth

This article contains spoilers from the second episode of EastEnders set to air on Wednesday (July 3), which has not yet been shown on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

EastEnders fans have been suspicious of newcomer Maya Hussain (Bharti Patel) ever since she befriended Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman), and now the truth has finally been exposed.

Maya and Harvey hit it off right away over their love of Tottenham Hotspurs, though fans were sure Maya had an ulterior motive for wanting to get close to the cab driver.

As their friendship developed, Harvey began lending Maya money, when she opened up about how she was struggling.

However, in recent scenes, Harvey found her address after she dropped a letter, and it became clear that she had been lying about her situation.

Desperate to know the truth, Harvey headed to the address and found the doors unlocked – but he wasn’t alone in the house.

He was left horrified to come face to face with a man he’d never seen before, who was clearly terrified by his presence.

It didn’t take long for Maya to come running down the stairs and attempt to calm the man, who she revealed was her husband, Abdul Hussain.

It was then that she confirmed a major fan theory – that Abdul had been the victim of an attack by Harvey’s son, Aaron Monroe.

Aaron was a member of a dangerous far right gang, who targeted a number of people in racially motivated attacks.

When Abdul was attacked, Harvey gave Aaron an alibi, meaning that he got away with the crime.

Though Aaron was now in prison for planting a bomb in the disused Argee Bhajee, that wasn’t enough for Maya, who had been struggling to care for her husband after the attack.

She revealed how he had suffered some horrific injuries, as well as being left blind in one eye, and explained that if Aaron had faced justice then maybe Abdul wouldn’t be as fragile as he is now, needing full time care.

Maya explained that because she’d had to quit her job to care for Abdul, she was struggling to pay the bills, and with no one left to turn to for help, she figured Harvey would be the person to go to.

However, she expressed how difficult she had found it to lie to him, as she didn’t expect to like him as much as she did.

With the truth revealed, will Harvey stay away from Maya, or will he continue to help her?
