EastEnders aired dramatic scenes for several characters, including Amy Mitchell and Lauren Branning, caught inside an overcrowded club that led to a crush and various injuries

Amy Mitchell was caught up in dramatic scenes on EastEnders this week that saw several characters injured whilst at an overcrowded nightclub.

Tuesday’s episode of the BBC soap saw a host of characters caught inside club Penny’s in Albert Square. Screams were heard as guests got crushed during the chaos, with there having been panic as many tried to get out of the venue.

Chelsea Fox (played by Zaraah Abrahams) is responsible for the incident, having wanted to get her own back at Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) for taking her job at the club. She put more tickets up for the carnival event, leading to overcrowding and the subsequent crush inside Penny’s.

Several characters were injured, including Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) who was trampled on as guests fled the venue. Her cousin Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) also needed medical attention after being pushed up against a barrier.

Amy was seen being carried out of the club on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on her face in the closing moments of the episode. A paramedic was heard telling her father Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) outside the club: “She’s gone into cardiac arrest.” The latest episode ended with the paramedics charging a defibrillator in a bid to save her life.

Viewers have shared concern for her fate on X, formerly known as Twitter, with some worried that she may now die. One person wrote recently: “Praying they don’t kill Amy off.” Another fan said in a tweet: “I really hope Amy doesn’t die.”“Please let Amy be ok,” a third person hoped. Whilst one person speculated following the episode: “Amy dies from crush from cardiac arrest.” However, one fan suggested otherwise, writing : “I don’t think they’d kill her off tbh.”

Sharing their thoughts, one fan said: “If Amy survives the crush – I hope this doesn’t lead to a potential exit for her. She’s one of the best young characters on the show and has been through so much this past year. [She] deserves a break.”

It was previously teased that someone could die in the incident. Cast member Zaraah said ahead of the episode: “[Chelsea] is filled with guilt that she has had a part to play in what is a catastrophic, and potentially fatal, accident. I think she is going to take it quite hard, especially because she is a mum now so has another perspective on what life means.”

Discussing her character’s motivation for selling too many tickets for the event, she said: “As far as Chelsea is concerned, she has worked herself up to that position – there has never been any trouble in the club, and Phil has always been happy with the way that she has been running it. Chelsea is just thinking, ‘You know what, I am going to ruin this night for [Penny] and Phil will give me my job back’.”
