Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers note that actress Emily O’Brien has officially exited the show. She entered the land of Salem in 2020 playing Gwen Rizczech, the illegitimate daughter of Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) who created a ton of chaos for both Abigail DiMera (last played by Marci Miller) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) in a fit of vengeful rage due to abandonment issues.

In the fall of 2023, she moved onto play Theresa Donovan when the original actress, Jen Lilley, exited the show.

As Theresa is headed to prison, for at least six months (maybe less – this is the land of soaps after all), O’Brien has officially left the soap for now. She recently talked to Soap Opera Digest (SOD) in the aftermath of her exit.

O’Brien tells SOD the announcement she made when she left the show. She states that she was “in tears” when she faced the cast and crew on stage. She looked at the cameras and told everyone how incredibly lucky she was.

O’Brien added, “I wasn’t supposed to be on the show for as long as I was. I not only got to play one amazing role, but I played two amazing roles.”

O’Brien revealed in her announcement that after her Jana Hawkes character was written off on the Young and the Restless in 2011, she thought she’d never gain access to a daytime drama role again.

Still, it’s undeniable that O’Brien knocked it out of the park with both her Gwen role, and how she played Theresa; fans can simply look at the recent Daytime Emmy Supporting Actress nomination she received in 2024 for her work as Gwen as a true testimony of her talent.

According to Soaps.com, while she’s gone now, there’s a good chance O’Brien will be invited back to Days, whether that be as Gwen or Theresa; both characters have incredible roots in the little town.
