Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt is reportedly set to be at the centre of a major new storyline on the ITV soap, but fans have been left divided over the news

Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, is reportedly set for a major new storyline on the soap – but it appears some fans are not impressed. The soap favourite made her debut way back on the cobbles in 2015.

As the daughter of Sarah (Tina O’Brien), Bethany has had her fair share of dramatic moments. In 2017, she was at centre of a heartbreaking storyline involving child exploitation and grooming, with Lucy bagging an Inside Soap Award for her role. However, in January 2020, she quit the soap – leaving fans gutted.

At the time, she left the programme in a bid to pursue other opportunities. But four years since she said her goodbyes, Lucy headed back to the cobbles this year. And since her return, she has been involved in several big moments on the soap so far. But now, it’s been reported that Corrie bosses are lining up a huge new storyline for Lucy, as Bethany, reports the Liverpool Echo.

According to reports, Bethany will soon become increasingly insecure about her appearance. As a result, she decides to jet off abroad for surgery – but things do not go to plan.

“This is a huge story for Bethany, and viewers will see her travel to a foreign clinic for cosmetic surgery,” a source told Metro. “As with a lot of these unregulated procedures, it doesn’t exactly go to plan.”

Reacting to news of Bethany’s storyline, Corrie viewers soon shared their thoughts. Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “This sounds abysmal.”

A second fan was less impressed, tweeting: “I thought we were turning a corner lately I’ve really been enjoying #corrie and then I read this it sounds awful plus the overkill of Bethany really irritates me.”
