Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon ‘so proud’ after TV son’s move as clear two-word verdict issued

It comes after Charlie Wrenshall was recently seen portraying Liam Connor’s plight as he was horrendously bullied

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has shared her pride for her ‘TV son’ as he picked up an award for his emotional and challenging bullying storyline. Charlie Wrenshall was recently seen portraying Liam Connor’s plight as he was horrendously bullied.

The teen character faced a rough ride at the hands of Weatherfield High bully Mason Radcliffe. Liam was seen being subject to intense bullying by the group, which included friend Dylan Wilson, with Mason even pulling a knife on Liam during one of his cruel bullying sessions.

There were then more heartbreaking scenes when the infuriating bullying campaign later resulted in the discovery that Liam was contemplating taking his own life, leaving his terrified mum, Maria Windass, watching her son’s every move, even going so far as to set up a camera in their home.

Justice did somewhat prevail with Mason told in court that he would have to face a custodial sentence as he had been convicted of possessing a knife before. But Liam’s suffering only continued with him suffering panic attacks that led to a hospital stay when he tried to self-medicate.

Liam, played by teen actor Charlie has since been undergoing counselling but it’s fair to say the family are still shaken by what has happened.

The young actor was seen in attendance at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards in Manchester on Saturday night (July 13) where he joined Luca Toolan, who plays Mason, and Liam McCheyne, who plays Dylan, alongside other members of the Corrie cast representing the local soap on the night.

And it was a big evening for Charlie as after hitting the red carpet, it was announced that he had picked up the award for Best Young Performer, which was voted for by a panel of soap experts. Sharing the moment Charlie headed up on stage to collect his award, Corrie said on Instagram: “Our @charliewrenshallofficial winning awards and the hearts of the nation.”

Samia, who plays Maria in the long-running show, was quick to respond as she gushed: “Beyond proud!!! So well deserved my telly son.” Kirk Sutherland actor Andy Whyment also replied: “Well deserved,” while Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney replied: “So well deserved.” Kyran Bowes, who stars as Jack Webster, also shared: “Amazing. Well done @charliewrenshallofficial so chuffed for you.”

Fans of Corrie were also quick to respond as the echoed Andy and Elle’s verdicts. @tinagirl67 said: “So well deserved great young actor.” @xxalicia89 commented: “YAY!! Well deserved! such a brilliant actor, he smashed the bullying story.” @camochickdesigns wrote: “Well deserved. Such a talented dude!” @joshuagoulden5 added: “Well deserved!! Well done Charlie. Congratulations.”
