Coronation Street‘s Kit Green actor Jacob Roberts has explained why his character will betray his mother Bernie Winter in upcoming scenes.
Bernie learned earlier that Kit, a detective who had recently turned up to the Cobbles, was her long-lost son. She forbade him from sharing his identity with her other kids Gemma and Paul, wanting them to have nothing to do with him.
It won’t last, as the twins will learn the truth in scenes set to air next week on ITV and top streaming service ITVX. Speaking to Inside Soap, Roberts explained the how and why of Kit’s revelation.
“He starts being nice to Bernie and arranges to meet up with her to discuss doing that, but it’s all an act!” he revealed.
“He is letting Bernie believe he wants to bring the family together, and while he is honest about wanting to get to know Gemma and Paul, he is pretending he wants to build bridges with Bernie — but that is the last thing he’s interested in! He says he’ll meet her in the pub, but leaves her waiting while goes to Paul’s flat to reveal all…
“Kit wants to tell Gemma and Paul his version of events, and how their mum abandoned him and kept his existence a secret from them.
“He is determined to make it clear how they all missed and how selfish Bernie has been. Kit enjoys hurting Bernie like she hurt him.”
He added that, at some point, Kit will need to realise that the only way to move forward in his life is to try and forgive his mother. He doesn’t feel like it will happen “for some time”, however.
