Coronation Street cast member Roy Cropper has been struggling since his release from prison – but the beloved character could be about to leave the cobbles for a few days after a tough time of late
Coronation Street’s beloved character Roy Cropper, portrayed by David Neilson since 1995, could be bidding farewell to the famous cobbles for a short while.
The popular soap figure has had a tumultuous year, becoming embroiled in a distressing storyline involving the disappearance of troubled teen Lauren (Cait Fitton), who was last seen alive by Roy.
Cops were soon called to search her flat where they found evidence of a struggle and a bloodied weapon on the floor. Until now, viewers were convinced that this was the murder weapon that killed the teen.
Her former boss Roy immediately became their number one suspect and he was charged with her murder and remanded in prison until his trial.
Luckily for Roy, Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) was set up by copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and was found responsible for her murder.
It wasn’t until last month that viewers discovered that solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was behind the teen’s disappearance. Since his return to the street and release from prison, Roy has been grappling with readjusting to normal life.
Roy has shut himself away in his flat above refusing to leave to come back to work – leaving his friends concerned. And in episodes this week, he suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital following an encounter with a gang of thugs on the street.
What’s more, in the upcoming episodes of the soap next week, it seems like Roy might be contemplating a hiatus from the cobbles.
The teasers indicate that Nina (Mollie Gallagher) arrives to pick up Roy from the hospital, but he attempts to hide his anxiety about departing. Back at his flat above the cafe, Nina dotes on Roy, relieved to have him back home.
She then proposes that Roy take a short break and stay with his friend Cathy in Scarborough. But will Roy take Nina’s advice and visit Cathy? Find out in Coronation Street next week.
