Casualty enthusiasts will be deprived of their regular hospital drama fix, as the beloved BBC

series has been removed from the television schedule next Saturday. Euro 2024 has instigated substantial alterations to TV timetables,

leading to several popular programmes being withdrawn from the line-up, including on the BBC.

Casualty won’t be broadcast at its usual slot on Saturday, June 29, 2024, and has instead been replaced by coverage of UEFA Men’s Euro 2024, which will span from 4.30pm until 10.10pm.

The second episode of Storm Damage will be aired this week, but devotees of BBC’s medical series will have to bide their time for the third chapter to be released, with a precise date yet to be disclosed.

Viewers have been captivated by the recent dramatic sequences unfolding on their screens. The 12-part series places the Casualty crew in the midst of a potent storm, with newcomer Barney Walsh’s character Cam embroiled in chaos.

From his youth, the 26-year-old actor has climbed the ranks in the television industry and amassed an impressive array of TV credits prior to joining the Casualty cast.

He has previously featured in renowned British dramas such as Law and Order: UK and Doctors, and teamed up with his TV star father Bradley on Bradley Walsh and Son: Breaking Dad and BBC’s Gladiators reboot.

In a chat with Inside Soap, Barney expressed his excitement about his new role, calling it a “dream come true”.

He stated: “It’s an absolute honour, to be honest. To lead a box set at Casualty is a dream come true, and to explore Cam’s character and journey through it has just been incredible. Growing up acting and going from audition to audition, all I’ve ever wanted is a storyline like this.”

This comes amid rumours that Casualty chiefs were hoping Barney Walsh’s role on the series would fill the gap left by Derek Thompson’s exit. Derek had been a fixture on the soap since its inception in 1986 before bowing out of the series this year.

A BBC source told the Daily Mail: “Charlie was a bit of a rubbish nurse when he first arrived, as is Cam, which is why this makes it all such a lovely idea from the bosses. They think that turning Cam into the ‘face of the nurses’ in lieu of Charlie is a no-brainer.

“His popularity has soared so much since Gladiators so it would mean he would be given bigger storylines and he would be used more, to stop anyone else grabbing him.”

Derek has revealed that his departure from the show marks the end of an era. The actor added that he experienced “heightened emotions” during the filming of his farewell scenes.

He revealed: “Charlie gets it wrong, and makes a mistake that he pays a dreadful price for. Last weekend, the patient was in a mess, and Charlie tried not to lose his temper, but he ended up getting on the wrong side of the man. As everyone saw, it ended with him being stabbed.”
