BBC Casualty’s explosive new trailer shows tears and heartache ahead for Holby ED staff

Casualty has released a new trailer for the next strand of stories for the long-running BBC medical drama entitled Breaking Point.

The story arc will kick off this coming Saturday (March 23) and follows the departure of Charlie Fairhead

(played by Derek Thompson) which marked the end of the History of Violence plot cycle.

Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) and Dylan Keogh (William Beck) seem to take centre stage. In Saturday’s episode, Rash returns to work for the first time since the death of his father and it is clear that he is still struggling.

The trailer sets the tone for this as he stands looking forlorn in the rain as he says in voiceover: “I wish I could have done more before he died. That he could have seen me make something myself. Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning.”

As the 2021 track The Only Survivor by Kye Sones and Marius De La Mer plays, the trailer cuts to upcoming dramatic scenes and shows that there isn’t much happiness ahead for the staff. Dylan clashes with the new clinical lead Patrick Onley (Jason Glover) who appears to have accused him of being autistic.

The pair are seen locking horns in snippets of scenes as Patrick complains about the state of the department after it had three clinical leads in the last year. Dylan is then seen snapping at him: “Even if I were autistic it wouldn’t stop me being a perfectly good doctor.”

Fans will be devastated to see him appearing to exit the show as he hands in his staff ID and walks out saying: “I don’t have to do this anymore. I don’t think I should try.”

We also get a taste of what’s ahead for the new clinical nurse manager Siobhan Mackenzie (Melanie Hill). Her voiceover says: “I’m serious about turning this place around.” She is seen comforting Nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) and looking worried at what she sees happening in the department.

Things don’t seem to improve for Rash as the series progresses, as later in the teaser he is heard to say: “You’re trying to get rid of me” while clips show colleagues looking at him disapprovingly.

We also see him flinch having been slapped indicating that the abuse of staff in the ED seems to continue throughout this story.

On a happier note, Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) is seen smiling as he bonds with his grandchild.

Meanwhile, Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) is seen crying and having a confrontation with his aunt Jan Jenning (Di Botcher). In another snippet, he is seen punching a man, possibly a patient.

However, he is also spotted sharing a passionate kiss with Jodie Whyte (Anna Chell) implying that they might pick up where they left off after their one-night stand last season.

Alongside all the personal dramas, there is a huge explosion and what appears to be a riot that will surely rock the thinly stretched department.
