Another Coronation Street character pulled into twisted cult as vulnerable Leanne Battersby begins to recruit

Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is set to start recruiting more members into sinister cult The Institute in Coronation Street, leaving one character in a worrying position.

Over the past few months, Leanne has been taken in by charming cult recruiter Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), and has totally fallen for The Institute’s tactics – much to the horror of sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

Toyah and Nick were quick to see the dark side of The Institute, after realising how much Leanne was spending on sessions.

They were left even more disturbed when they realised that Leanne had been talking to an AI version of dead son Oliver, having opened up to Rowan about her grief.

In recent scenes, Toyah grew horrified when she found Leanne showing Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) videos from The Institute.

Things got even more worrying when Toyah realised that Amy was considering getting involved, and she was quick to warn her off.

However, Amy brushed off her concerns, and insisted that she was an adult who could make her own decisions.

In upcoming scenes, Leanne decides to spend a day looking after Toyah, following her hospital visit, though she is left with a dilemma when Rowan calls and asks her to attend a taster session for new recruits.

Toyah agrees to go with her to the session, and when they arrive at the Chariot Square Hotel, Leanne is thrilled to see Amy there.

When Rowan targeted Leanne, it was clear she was in a vulnerable position, what with son Simon Barlow’s (Alex Bain) recent antics. Not only that, but she soon opened up about her past traumas, including the death of son Oliver.

Amy is still very vulnerable (Picture: ITV)According to actor Emrhys Cooper, Leanne has ignored all of the red flags about Rowan and The Institute.

‘I think there’s been a few red flags that she’s chosen to ignore, and we’ve got quite a few more twists and turns ahead before she realises it might not be what he’s selling. We’ve got a bit more of a journey there.’

With Amy also in a vulnerable position, following her rape ordeal at the hands of Aaron Sandford (James Craven), could she also fall into The Institute’s trap?
