EastEnders wrapped up the week with an explosive visit to Walford, as the truth about Nadine Keller’s fake pregnancy was finally revealed to Jay Brown.
The Square was buzzing with drama as Stevie Mitchell played detective and exposed Nadine’s bogus baby bump in Wednesday’s cliffhanger (May 1). This set the stage for a Thursday showdown (May 2) that had BBC viewers glued to their screens.
Jay was left reeling from the bombshell, his heart shattered by Nadine’s deceit. It’s fair to say he had little sympathy for the former escort when she tried explain the real reason behind her lies.
In the nail-biting scenes, Nadine claimed she had been blackmailed by Olivia, who threatened to spill the beans on her shady past to a law firm where she’d snagged an internship. She added that in a fit of petty jealousy, Olivia demanded hush money or risk having her history of drug dealing and sex work laid bare.
In a shocking twist, Nadine blurted out: “No you wouldn’t. I was just a girl that sold you ket and stood in for your dead wife,” hinting at the time she peddled Jay some ketamine. Jay snapped back with venom: “And I was just the easiest mark on your list.
“That’s all I was right? So your little friend ain’t going to ruin your life – I am. I think this counts as fraud doesn’t it? “. A desperate Nadine then begged: “Jay. Jay please don’t call the police! Jay I’m beginning you, have we not suffered enough?!”.
As the tension mounted, Jay confessed he had nearly kicked the bucket after their encounter last year, and told her with a broken heart that he thought their upcoming baby was his new lease on life. Having none of it, Jay told Nadine to leave, forcing her to walk away wracked with guilt.
After Nadine spilled the beans about her deceitful antics, viewers flooded to social media, suggesting there’s more to this scam than meets the eye. One viewer tweeted: “Sorry Nadine is being blackmailed over an internship??”
Another chimed in with: “‘She was going to ruin my life.’ I think you did a good job at that yourself Nadine.” A third added: “Nadine’s excuse doesn’t add up. Who stoops that low over keeping a placement?”.
Another chimed in, questioning the plot’s depth: “What was the point of this storyline? It’s over too soon. There’s got to be more to it than being worried her mate would grass.”
