This article contains spoilers for Wednesday’s episode of EastEnders, which is already streaming on BBC iPlayer.
EastEnders aired a twist in Chrissie Watts’ (Tracy-Ann Oberman) return storyline on Wednesday, as it was revealed she was actually pregnant when she was sent to prison 19 years ago.
The murderer was jailed for killing her husband Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) back in 2005, with his daughter Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) fundamental in stopping her attempt to evade justice by fleeing the country with partner Jake Moon (Joel Beckett).
The two women have since been brought face-to-face, with Sharon serving a week’s sentence for contempt of court in the same prison as her father’s killer.
Chrissie has shown she is out to get Sharon, with Tuesday’s episode ending with a terrifying cliffhanger for the Walford icon, as Chrissie threatened her with a knife.
As the action picked back up on Wednesday, the BBC soap explored why Chrissie is so hellbent on revenge.
She revealed how she’d been pregnant with Jake’s baby when she was arrested, but sadly lost the baby two weeks later after she was jailed.
Blaming Sharon for the miscarriage and ruining her life, she told of how she’s planned to tell Jake and fight the murder charge in the hope of getting a lighter sentence and reuniting with him and their baby upon her release.
