It was just days ago Lisa confirmed she was leaving the ITV soap 13 years after joining as Beth Tinker

Coronation Street star Lisa George has revealed what was ‘unusual’ about her exit from the long-running show and also the heart-to-heart she had with her co-star beforehand.

Just after Christmas, reports emerged that the actress was set to leave the long-running show after playing Beth Tinker in the ITV soap. The rumours have continued and it wasn’t until she appeared on This Morning on Wednesday (August 28) that the soap star confirmed she has left Corrie with her final scenes set to air on Friday (August 30).

Speaking about her upcoming exit as Beth for the first time, Lisa said on This Morning: “It’s strange. I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. I don’t think it will until I’m not on screen anymore and the fact that Friday will be her last scenes, I think then it will start to sink in…”

Lisa has also opened up about how her fears of going blind encouraged her to take the leap and explore other roles. Lisa was diagnosed last year with NAION – non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, a rare condition where a loss of blood flow and oxygen delivery to the optic nerve causes sudden and painless vision loss in one eye.

As for her exit, Corrie viewers have seen in recent weeks, Beth was using the equipment at Underworld as part of her dodgy side hustle to sew logos onto counterfeit T-shirts. But Beth was rumbled by DS Lisa Swain’s daughter Betsy, who had joined the staff at the factory on work experience.

Beth ended up letting a sneaky Betsy join in on her side hustle for a cut of the profits to keep her secret safe. However, after Beth informed Betsy that she had secured them a huge T-shirt order with Sid and invited Izzy Armstrong to join their operation things started to crumble.

Beth’s criminal business was quickly rumbled while dodgy police officer Kit Green, who was seen secretly in cahoots with Sid and his counterfeit T-shirt business, warned that he wouldn’t say a word as long as he gets half the cut of profits. Beth has since discovered Kit’s secret and tried to blackmail him into handing over £400 for her silence.

But Kit has now turned the tables on Beth. Kit threatened to ruin Craig’s career by exposing the cover-up of Faye Windass and Emma Brooker’s hit and run in 2021 to his bosses if Beth was to do anything with the video of him.

However, he took his blackmail one step further after spotting Beth having a tearful conversation with Daniel Osbourne who he knows has become suspicious of his involvement with Nathan Curtis, his girlfriend Bethany Platt’s former abuser. Later, Kit did give Beth some of the money she had demanded to keep quiet, however, he also told her she now had to leave Weatherfield if she wanted to protect Craig as he didn’t trust she wouldn’t grass him up.

Asked what it was like filming her last scenes, Lisa said: “Unusually Beth’s departure was my final scene of filming, often we film out of order but as I filmed it I knew Beth was leaving and it was my final scene on the cobbles. Halfway through when he called the cab to stop, and they got out I actually got really, quite tearful. I cried afterwards because it’s been this huge part of my life for such a long time.”

She also admitted it’s difficult to grasp that she has been part of the show’s cast for more than a decade. “I’ve been on Corrie a long time but you know what? It’s flown,” she said. “It’s really difficult to comprehend how many years I’ve been here, because it hasn’t computed at all.

“But that’s what it’s like here, because you’re in a different world – Weatherfield world, and it’s completely different to the real world. You get so engrossed in this world and it is timeless. It feels like you’ve only been here a year or two years or something. When you
