In upcoming Coronation Street episodes, Jack Webster (Kyran Bowes) braces himself for his plea hearing in court, and it’s a hugely anxious day for his dad Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and step-mum Abi Webster (Sally Carman).
Jack admitted to starting a fire at the office of Stefan Brent (Paul Opacic), the father of Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) who killed Abi’s son Seb (Harry Visinoni).
Corey and his gang attacked Seb while he was out with his girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher). Seb died after being viciously assaulted.
Corey at first tried to escape justice after his dad bribed witnesses in the trial. Abi was relentless in trying to get to the truth and forced a confession out of him at gunpoint, but couldn’t bring herself to shoot him.
Corey he was later tried again and pleaded guilty, and is currently in jail. Abi was outraged earlier this year to see a documentary on TV making him out to be the hero of his prison football team.
‘She thinks about Seb all the time, but she was starting to get to that point where she could think about him and feel happy remembering him. Obviously there are moments where that’s not the case, but this has totally turned all of it on its head and she feels like she’s back to the day he was kicked to death by Corey,’ Sally Carman said of the sickening moment.
While Abi was initially suspected of the crime of arson given her history with Corey Brent, eventually Jack confessed that he was the one who did it. He at first claimed that he thought the building was empty when he started the fire, but CCTV evidence contradicted his story.
He was therefore charged with the more serious offence of arson with the intent to endanger life.
Solicitor Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) advised that a guilty plea would be the best way of hopefully avoiding Jack being given a prison sentence, but of course there were no guarantees about what the outcome would be.
So tensions are running high as Jack enters the court and makes his plea.
