If one of the biggest theories about Virgin River is correct, season six will bring a death that changes everything.
Virgin River has released the first ten episodes of its 5th season, which has divided the series’ huge fanbase. Some were excited to reconnect with beloved characters Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan, as well as other Virgin River residents. While others were disappointed, feeling that this season’s writing was disjointed and bland.
The plot twist that left fans especially disappointed was revealed in Episode 5, “Trial by Fire.” It shows a pregnant Mel tending to patients during a wildfire outbreak and suddenly finding herself bleeding.
The loss of Mel’s baby ultimately creates a dark future for another Virgin River character
In a heartbreaking scene, Mel rushes to the clinic to check her baby’s heartbeat and, unable to detect a heartbeat, realizes she has miscarried again. This plot was both revealing and dramatic, but it also angered fans who watched Virgin River for its light romance and happy ending.
Now, fans are speculating that with the abortion plot, the writers are setting up a dark future for another Virgin River character, Charmaine Sheh.
What does Jack’s ex have to do with all of this, you might ask? Well, a theory doing the rounds among fans suggests that Virgin River writers could kill off Charmaine next season, allowing Jack and Mel to adopt their twins and start a family.
The theory makes a lot of sense
After all, Charmaine’s death would make sense in the story, Charmaine’s main plot revolves around her pregnancy. Once the children were born, she would have nothing left to do but leave the town of Virgin River. However, if Charmaine dies and the children are orphaned, many interesting plots could take place.
Charmaine Sheh has been pregnant since Season 1, and almost all of her scenes revolve around her unborn twins. At first we thought they were Jack’s, then the whole “who is the real father” question came up, and now Calvin is back from the dead and thinks he might be the father.
Given Charmaine’s obvious fear during her interactions with Calvin and how much we still don’t know, Calvin’s situation will certainly continue in future seasons. And because he is dangerous, Charmaine’s life will certainly be in danger if she does not comply with his demands. Furthermore, she may die during childbirth.
We will see these scenes in the Christmas special that will air from November 30. But will the theory become reality? Let’s see!
