Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has admitted her co-star Calum Lill is ‘terrifying’ when he gets into character as she spoke about their relationship off-screen. The pair have been at the forefront of the ITV soap following Lauren Bolton’s return to Weatherfield.

As viewers know, the teen character, played by Cait, went missing after being sacked from her job at Roy’s Rolls before she was later visited by a mystery person, who viewers never got to see.

Lauren was soon presumed dead and as the last known person to see her, and the fact he misguidedly cleaned her flat before blood was found on the curtains, it was Roy Cropper who was accused of being responsible for her disappearance and spent time behind bars, charged with Lauren’s murder.

Three months after she was last seen alive on the cobbles, it was confirmed that it was Joel Deering who was behind her disappearance before a shocking flashback clip revealed the solicitor as being Lauren’s secret ‘boyfriend’ who brutally attacked her with a chair leg.

Lauren has since been found by Joel as she put her life on the line to visit Roy in hospital after he suffered a heart attack just weeks after being released from prison. As she tried to leave, he accosted her and the pair ended up in an intense confrontation in a family room.

It was in there that, with the help of a series of flashback clips, Corrie fans were finally made aware of what really happened between the pair. Their relationship started when Joel was the duty solicitor at the station when she was questioned. Soon after, he offered to help her with her bills before giving her money and gift in return for sex.

It was when she tried to end things once and for all, and threatened to tell his fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey that Joel snapped and attacked her. But, in real-time, when Joel seemingly went to hurt Lauren again, she cowered and held her stomach, with him discovering she is carrying his child.

Joel’s fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey and Bethany Platt have since tracked Lauren down and despite Joel trying to get to her first, the girls insisted she go to hospital to get checked over and insisted she would be safe there. Or that was until Joel arrived and instructed her on what she needed to say to the police.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards in Manchester, Cait shared what it is like to work alongside Callum Lill, who plays the role of Joel, as she said: “Cal is brilliant, Cal just is a lovely human being. But he is terrifying. When he is in ‘Joel mode’, he is terrifying. So I hope we can take him down.”
