Coronation Street’s Vicky Myers says ‘it’s early days’ as Swain actress gushes over Carla Connor co-star

Fans continue to hope for a romance between the two characters in the ITV soap

Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has admitted it’s ‘early days’ in DS Lisa Swain’s blossoming friendship with Carla Connor as fans continue to hope for a romance between the two characters.

Back in May, viewers of the ITV soap went wild over scenes between Swain and Carla, played by Alison King. The detective seargent ended up discovering that Carla covered for her nephew Bobby Crawford when he lied in a fresh police statement over who he saw when Lauren Bolton disappeared in a bid to help Roy Cropper.

Despite Swain being the reason Carla’s friend was behind bars at the time, over the suspected murder of missing teen Lauren, Carla was seen being sympathetic to the stressed-out detective and mum.

She did later return the favour, convincing Roy, who has since been released from prison but not before a terrifying ordeal with Griff Reynolds, to make up with his friend after he refused to speak to her over her and Bobby’s attempts to put him in the clear.

Since then, Swain and Carla have spent a bit more time together thanks to her landing daughter Betsy Swain work experience at Underworld. But every scene they appear in has Corrie viewers wanting more than a friendship for the pair.

Recently, Alison spoke to the Radio Times and gushed over the co-star, saying: “Vicky Myers, who plays Swain, is amazing and been in Corrie for years. She’s been given more to do and deserves it.”

When quizzed on her co-star’s compliments at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards in Manchester on Saturday night (July 13), Vicky told the Manchester Evening News: “Ali’s a joy. She’s hilarious, she’s a fantastic talent and she’s a beautiful human being so to spend more time with her and actually to see the two of them and their friendship grow and the inclusion of Betsy as well, it’s interesting to see that dynamic.”

She added: “It’s interesting for Swain as well to have that confident and another female that she can trust and share her life with, and also her daughter because she’s very protective of her daughter so it’s building up that trust between the two of them. [I’m] interested to see where it leads this friendship because it’s very early days at the moment. It’ll be really nice for [Swain] to have a friend and someone that supports her.”

Also when quizzed on whether Swain can finally get to the bottom of what happened to Lauren and her history with Joel Deering amid her return to Weatherfield, Vicky told us: “I hope so. I think it would be brilliant to see. I could just imagine a scene between the two of
