Could the romance between Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) and Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) in Coronation Street be over before it’s hardly started?
The couple got together recently when Michael proved to be a support to Glenda over her dispute with her brother George (Tony Maudsley).
Glenda was taken aback to discover that her and George’s father, Archie, had left his funeral business jointly to both his children.
After his death, however, George assumed control of the business and Glenda was never aware that she was the rightful owner of half of it.
George feels that Glenda isn’t capable of running a serious business, as Tony Maudsley previously told us.
‘He’s in this quandary of not want to short-change his sister but also not wanting to hand her half a business that she’s going to sink into the ground in five seconds, if she gets her hands on it!’ he said.
‘She was never a responsible kid. She couldn’t even look after her pets properly. Pets died and she went and got another one or she’d wait for a new fad to kick in and say she wanted a terrapin. Things like that.’
Glenda, however, decided to fight for what was rightfully hers by suing her brother for half of the business and George’s house – a move which has put the siblings at odds with each other.
In upcoming episodes George finds Glenda and Michael in the cafe and suggests they should meet for a drink later to try to settle their differences in a friendly way. Sadly Glenda isn’t on the same page as George and after he’s gone she continues to vent to Michael about how she wants what’s rightfully hers and she won’t let George talk her out of doing whatever it takes.
Michael is shocked by the forcefulness of her reaction and, despite being firmly on her side previously, it seems he’s now disapproving of the stance she’s taking.
Glenda worries that his feelings towards her are cooling, so she decides she has to offer George a compromise. She goes to the undertakers and tells George that she’s willing to drop the case against him and give up her claim on his business – but she wants his house.
Will George agree to her terms? And will she manage to save her relationship with Michael?
